QUESTIONNAIRE for Improving the Flow of Information from the Arctic
Council

The chairmanship of the Arctic Council was transferred from the United
States to Finland at the Ministerial Meeting in Barrow, Alaska in
October 2000. During its chairmanship, Finland will aim at raising the
profile of the Arctic Council as a promoter of arctic issues and will
examine how the flow of information should be improved to strengthen its
external image.

The aim of our research is to clarify the knowledge and views of the
local inhabitants, indigenous peoples, decision makers, and scientists
living in the arctic region on the activities of the Arctic Council, and
to find the means for improving the flow of information from and the
visibility of the Arctic Council. This research is an independent
research conducted by the Arctic Centre at the University of Lapland and
its results will be given for the use of the Arctic Council Secretary.

The questionnaire, which can be found on the homepage of the Arctic
Council at: http://www.arctic-council.org/whatsnew.asp is an important
part of our research.

We hope that you can fill in the questionnaire form, and distribute the
information of this questionnaire further so that we can get as wide a
range of responses as possible. All experiences and opinions are
valuable in order to develop the flow of information from the Arctic
Council!

Sincerely,
