POST-DOCTORAL POSITION
COLD REGIONS GEOPHYSICS
LAVAL UNIVERSITY
Closing date for applications: 1 February 2001
The Centre d'etudes nordiques (CEN) of Laval University invites
applications for a Post-Doctoral Position in Cold Regions Geophysics.
The applicant will be expected to work in a project funded by the
Ministere de la Recherche, de la Science et de la Technologie du Quebec
(MRST) with the objective to develop geophysical data processing and
modeling of seismic and electromagnetic tomography applied to permafrost
study. The project aim is the development of new geophysical
technologies for permafrost investigation. In summer 2000, plastic
casing for geophysical investigation has been sunk in twenty deep
boreholes drilled in different permafrost environments in Northern
Quebec. The follow-up of permafrost dynamics is planned in 2001-2002
using ground penetrating radar and seismic cone penetration tests. The
applicant will participate in the field work and data acquisition.
Desired qualifications are:
- Ph.D. degree in geophysics or an equivalent geoscience completed
within the last five years at the time beginning the post-doctoral
position;
- Experience in geophysical data processing and modeling (seismic and
electromagnetic tomography);
- Knowledge in numerical modeling of geodynamic processes applied to
permafrost study; and
- Computer programming skills.
The MRST-funded position is offered initially for one year with a
possible second year extension. Salary is based on the NSERC Fellowship
Program (30k $CAN/year). Starting date will be as soon as possible.
Closing date for applications is 1 February 2001.
