Research Assistantship Available in Arctic Archaeology leading to a MSc in
Anthropology at Idaho State University.
The Lower Alaska Peninsula Project is seeking an innovative, experienced
(more or less), lithics specialist to conduct research and course work
leading to a Master's of Science in Anthropology at Idaho State University.
This is a NSF funded research program investigating the relationship between
catastrophic landscape change and human social dynamics in the southern
Bering Sea and North Pacific regions. Herbert Maschner, Associate Professor,
directs the project. The student will be expected to participate in summer
research on the Alaska Peninsula. The Research Assistantship is for two
years and pays all tuition, fees, and provides a livable salary.
The Department of Anthropology at ISU has young and dynamic faculty oriented
towards the Anthropology of hunter-gatherers, theory, GIS/quantitative
methods, applied anthropology, and Native American studies. The Department
has excellent GIS and image processing facilities, and large archaeology
laboratories.
Idaho State University is located in Pocatello in the foothills of the
western Rockies and near the headwaters of the Snake River portion of the
Columbian Plateau. We are 2.5 hours from Jackson Hole and the Teton
Mountains, two hours from Yellowstone National Park, and 2.5 hours from Sun
Valley Ski Area. We are approximately 2 hours from the Salt Lake City
metropolitan area.
