Dear Colleagues,
The NSF Office of Polar Programs is pleased to announce the selection of Dr.
Neil Swanberg as the Program Manager for Arctic Natural Sciences. He is
currently the Deputy Executive Director of the International Geosphere -
Biosphere Program (IGBP), an International Council for Science program
housed in the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm, Sweden. The
IGBP plans and implements an international non-governmental effort to study
the biogeochemical aspects of global environmental change.
From 1992-1993, Dr. Swanberg was the Associate Program Manager for Polar
Biology and Medicine in the Office of Polar Programs. He also has held
positions at the University of Bergen, Lamont-Doherty Geological
Observatory, and Dartmouth College, and has participated in a number of
oceanic research cruises. He received his B.A. at the University of
California, Davis and his PhD at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Swanberg will replace Dr.
Linda Duguay who left OPP to take a position at the University of Southern
California.
He will begin his new assignment on April 10.
