The International Union of Soil Science (IUSS) and the International
Permafrost Association (IPA) will in cooperation with the Institute of
Geography, University of Copenhagen and the Danish Polar Center
convene the
3rd International Conference on Cryogenic Soils, Copenhagen, Denmark
August 20-24, 2001
A post conference field trip to Northern Scandinavia is planned in
cooperation between the Nordic countries
August 25-31, 2001
The focus of the scientific program will be to bring out the importance
of soil processes within the integrated terrestrial Arctic System Science
by addressing key problems concerning responses of Arctic landscapes
to Global Change. This will be done in the framework of a multi
disciplinary scientific programme, covering the interaction of abiotic and
biotic processes in the control of:
- cryogenic processes
- genesis of cryosols
- soil ecology
- carbon storage and cycling
- cryosols and the hydro-geochemical cycle
- responses of cryosols to anthropogenic impact and global change
SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM
* Opening session by invited speakers covering the different items
* Oral presentations in multi disciplinary sessions
* Poster display and a poster session including short oral
* Presentations will be organized
Selected papers will be published in a Special Issue of "The Danish
Journal of Geography" planned to appear at or shortly after the Conference.
All abstract will be published in an abstract proceedings distributed at the
Conference.
A Second Circular for the Third International Conference on Cryogenic
Soils will be sent to all participants in the spring of 2000. A one page
abstract will have to be prepared before January 1, 2001.
Authors of selected presentations will be notified and asked to provide a
paper for the special issue of The Danish Journal of Geography, 2001.
