Dear Colleague,
If you receive support from the National Science Foundation for your
research in the Arctic, you may be interested in working with a secondary
school teacher in the Teachers Experiencing Antarctica and the Arctic (TEA)
program. TEA teachers are sponsored by the National Science Foundation to
travel to the polar regions to participate in ongoing research and to
transfer the experience to the classroom during and following the field
season. The program is a partnership between the National Science
Foundation, teachers, researchers, and school districts.
Teachers are selected to work in the Arctic or the Antarctic for all or part
of a field season. Additional travel to the principal investigator's lab is
supported for orientation and data analysis. The TEA Program works with the
science teams to integrate the TEA teacher into the research program and to
prepare the teacher to communicate the science with the general public. The
TEA Program assists the teacher in transferring the experience into the
classroom through peer mentoring, classroom activity and resource
development, and presentations at educational and scientific meetings. For

applications is December 15, 1999.
