NSF Seeks GLOBE Proposals
The National Science Foundation (NSF) is seeking proposals from
scientist-educator teams to participate in the Global Learning and
Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) Program. These teams will
be tasked with maintaining and improving the science, education and
evaluation activities of the program and will be selected by a NSF peer
review panel of scientists and educators.
For scientific involvement in GLOBE, teams must propose to conduct
environmental research using GLOBE student data and to assume
responsibility for one or more existing or new GLOBE measurement protocols.
Proposals are also being solicited for the development of learning
activities in support of GLOBE measurements; for the development of U.S.
student assessment tools for optional use by teachers; for the development
and integration of educational materials; and for program evaluation.
GLOBE is an international program and encourages scientists and educators
from outside the United States to form teams and respond to the NSF
announcement, although no U.S. Federal support will be provided to non-U.S.
institutions. NSF awards to U.S. institutions and GLOBE agreements with
non-U.S. institutions will be for up to four years with an approximate
starting date of May 1998. Proposals are due into NSF by October 15, 1997.
