PUBLIC POLICY RESEARCH INSTITUTE DIRECTOR
UNIVERSITY OF ALASKA ANCHORAGE
The University of Alaska Anchorage invites applications for the Director of
the Institute of Social and Economic Research, a public policy research
Institute within the College of Business and Public Policy. The successful
candidate will devote half time to managing and directing the research
program of the Institute, and half time to Institute research and service as
well as teaching in an appropriate discipline. This is a full-time, tenure
track, permanent, 12 month/year position commencing July 1, 1997 with salary
DOE. Review of applications begins November 1 and continues until the
position is filled.
REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. (or equivalent) in an appropriate discipline or
profession and experience conducting public policy research, managing
research projects, raising research funds, and building research links to
the community. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in
multi-disciplinary public policy research with experience in the following
areas: research, teaching, research management, financial management,
program planning, development, and administration, funding development,
interactions with policy makers and the general public, and working with
research funding agencies to develop external program support.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Institute studies economic and social change in Alaska
and neighboring regions; identifies and defines the important public policy
issues facing Alaska; disseminates economic, demographic, and social
information; and assists public institutions and private businesses facing
the challenges of development in the 49th state. Particular responsibilities
of the director include identifying and developing research agendas,
supervising personnel and managing other resources, working with public and
private sector clients, and ensuring the continued fiscal strength of the
Institute.
BACKGROUND:. UAA is the largest public institution of higher learning in
Alaska, serving 22,000 students and offering graduate, baccalaureate, and
associate degrees. Anchorage, with a population of 250,000, is the
commercial and cultural center of the state and offers many recreational
opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts.
