La Rochelle Université invites applications for a PhD researcher to study the fate of terrigenous organic carbon, mobilized by thawing Arctic permafrost, in Arctic coastal waters. This full-time, three-year position will be located in La Rochelle, France.

The PhD candidate will propose an alternative method to compute terrigenous dissolved organic carbon (tDOC) fluxes by using new ocean color products from space remote sensing and high-resolution sensor data in the mouth of the Mackenzie River. The PhD candidate will also set up the high-resolution configuration of the Arctic MIT General Circulation Model for the Beaufort Sea and western Arctic Ocean, and will work on a new model parameterization of the freshwater discharge and tDOC fluxes by the Mackenzie River in order to predict carbon dioxide air-sea fluxes within the river plume.

Applicants must have a strong background in numerical modeling, oceanography, and data analysis; be self-motivated; and have strong written and verbal communication skills. Travel to the U.S. and Canada may be required.

Applicants must submit a curriculum vitae, a statement of research experience and interests, and a list of publications via email to Vincent Le Fouest (vincent.le_fouest [at] univ-lr.fr) and Antoine Mangin (Antoine.Mangin [at] acri-st.fr).
