The Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center (NERSC) invites applications for an ocean modeler/oceanographer. This position will be for the duration of two years, with the possibility for permanent employment, and will be located in Bergen, Norway.
Responsibilities of this position will include carrying out model developments to improve the operational service in the Arctic; validation and evaluation of new model developments related to resolution, tides, and forcing; and application of ocean models towards research on the North Atlantic and the Arctic within ongoing projects.
Qualifications for this position include:
- PhD or equivalent in oceanography, applied mathematics, engineering, computer science, earth system science, or a related physical science;
- Research experience in a relevant field with a strong publication record in refereed journals; and
- Experience with development and/or use of ocean models, and their evaluation using observations.
Additional desired skills include strong written and oral communication skills; programming abilities in Fortran and Python and experience with version control systems, such as GIT and SVN; and the ability to work in a team, as well as individually.
