The National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded Polar Computing Research Coordination Network (RNC; http://polar-computing.org) invites community comments on a white paper draft analyzing opportunities and barriers in the uptake of high-performance and distributed computing for polar science.
Specifically, the charge of the RCN was to identify opportunities for, and barriers to, greater uptake of High-Performance and Distributed Cyberinfrastructure (HPDC) by polar sciences; ensure that plans and designs for new and existing NSF-funded cyberinfrastructure efforts are cognizant of the needs of the polar science community; and understand how best to educate a new generation of polar scientists in the skills needed to realize the opportunities and potential of HPDC.
As the RCN draws to a close, this community paper analyzes the state-of-play along these three dimensions. Broad community comments are now being solicited to ensure a diversity of voices are fully considered in the report.
Comments can be submitted on Github (https://github.com/polar-computing/CWP/issues) or emailed to shantenu.jha [at] rutgers.edu.
