The Nansen Center invites applications for a postdoctoral/researcher position in sea ice-ocean interaction. This full-time, two-year position, with a possibility of extension pending future funding, will be located in Bergen, Norway.
This position is linked to ongoing and upcoming national and international research projects focusing on ice–ocean interaction in a coupled ice–ocean model. The successful applicant will study the first simulations of the coupled NEMO-neXtSIM model. The main scientific tasks will be to study air–sea fluxes through leads, the Arctic sea-ice mass budget, and the role of ice heterogeneity in water mass formation and mixed layer evolution.
Responsibilities include presentation of scientific results in journal articles and conferences; participation in writing new proposals, should the occasion rise; and completion of scientific tasks set out in the relevant project proposals.
Qualifications include:
- PhD in oceanography, climate science, or related disciplines;
- Experience with analyzing ice and ocean model outputs; and
- Experience running and working with coupled ice–ocean models.
Skills and personal qualities include:
- Good communication skills in English, both written and oral;
- Be structured and keen to learn new things; and
- Enjoy working in a team, as well as individually.
