The following session invites abstracts:

Session: Resilience of Arctic Infrastructure and Its Social Impacts
Conveners: Ming Xiao, David L. Barnes, Raed Lubbard, and Min Liew

Thawing permafrost and accelerated coastal dynamics are disrupting existing natural and built environments and threatening communities, industries, and cultures in circumpolar countries. The resilience of Arctic infrastructure, including residential and public buildings, road systems, utility pipelines, and coastal erosion remediations, is interconnected with and interdependent on the natural environment and social systems. Although the vulnerability of the Arctic infrastructure has been widely recognized, a clear knowledge gap exists in terms of quantitative infrastructure performances, fundamental understanding of the driving factors affecting infrastructure performances, and their interconnectivity with natural environment and their social impacts. This session welcomes topics on impacts of permafrost degradation and coastal land loss on infrastructure, observations of infrastructure performances, model predictions of future infrastructure performances, new and adaptive construction approaches and materials, and discussion of social impacts due to changes of Arctic infrastructure.
