The Department of Environmental Science at Baylor University invites applications for two PhD students in atmospheric chemistry modeling. These positions will be located in Waco, Texas.

Successful candidates will use atmospheric modeling tools across different temporal and spatial scales to better understand atmospheric chemistry and air quality-climate interactions. Specific projects include trace gas chemistry, aerosol-cloud interactions, urban air quality, extreme events (e.g., wildfire and dust) under a changing climate, and trends in greenhouse gas emissions and air quality co-benefits. Research involves extensive collaborations within and beyond the university. Funding is guaranteed for PhD students through fellowships and research and teaching assistantships.

Applicants should have obtained a degree (MSc or equivalent) in atmospheric sciences, meteorology, chemistry, physics, or related fields with a grade point average better than B (English grade), and have basic knowledge of atmospheric chemistry. A strong background in math, chemistry, physics, and programming is preferred. The Department particularly encourages applicants with a robust track record of scientific research, and all applicants should be fluent in English (written and spoken).

Candidates are encouraged to contact Dr. Yang Li (yang_li3 [at] baylor.edu) before applying, by emailing a one-paragraph brief statement of research interest, a curriculum vitae that includes detailed information on academic qualifications, transcripts, and contact information for two references. All documents should be combined and sent as one integrated PDF.

Information on applying to the Department of Environmental Science at Baylor University can be found online.

For full consideration for fall 2022 admission, applications to the Department of Environmental Science should be submitted no later than 5 January 2022. The position will be open until filled.
