Child Trends invites applications for a Research Scientist I or Scientist II for Indigenous Populations. This permanent position will be remote, with most organizations working on Eastern Time.
The Research Scientist I or Scientist II will be focused on the well-being of children, youth, and families Indigenous to the lands presently known as the United States, and will actively plan and execute major research, evaluation, and training and technical assistance projects in partnership with Indigenous Tribal Nations, communities, and organizations in the U.S.
The Research Scientist I/II should have experience building partnerships and/or working with Indigenous Tribal Nations, communities, and organizations in the U.S. The successful candidate will serve as a point person for communication between research partners and funders; implement research and evaluation activities; identify implications for policy and practice based on study findings; and communicate study results to key audiences through the development of various dissemination products (e.g., reports, briefs, blogs, academic articles, presentations, data visualizations).
Requirements for the position include:
- Demonstrated research, evaluation, or training and technical assistance experience with Indigenous Tribal Nations, communities, organizations, agencies, or institutions in the U.S.;
- Possess a clear understanding of the intersectionality of the Indigenous experience in the U.S. and how historic and ongoing systemic inequities have led to disparities in outcomes for Indigenous children, youth, families, communities, and Tribal Nations;
- Training and experience in fields (e.g., public health, psychology, sociology, social work, education) and a focus on topics (e.g., clinical, behavioral, or mental health programs and services; environmental or juvenile justice; social, emotional, or positive youth development) that are relevant to the well-being of Indigenous children, youth, and families;
- Early-to-mid-career professional, inclusive of those within approximately 3-7 years of receiving a doctoral degree or those with a master’s degree plus deep field knowledge, specialty area expertise, methods expertise, or experience. To be considered as a Scientist II, application materials must demonstrate increased experience, independence, and expertise in the qualifications;
- Knowledge of and experience with participatory research methods and/or Indigenous methodologies and with quantitative, qualitative, and/or mixed methods research approaches;
- Demonstrated ability to manage research, evaluation, or training and technical assistance projects effectively with keen attention to detail and quality;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; and
- If working remotely, ability to reliably access the Internet and effectively collaborate with colleagues.
