13th Nordic Tag Conference

The Department of Archaeology and The Center for Research in Humanities at the University of Iceland announce open registration and a call for papers for the 13th Nordic Tag conference. Entitled "Borders-Margins-Fringes: Archaeologies on/from the Edge," the conference will convene 21-25 April 2013 in Reykjavik, Iceland.

The conference will provide a discussion forum of theoretical debate in archaeology, cultural heritage management, material culture studies, and other related disciplines.

Open session topics will include:

• Materialized margins: the reflection on borders, margin, and fringes through material culture;
• At the crossroads of archaeology and folklore;
• Practice-led theory;
• Taking the bull by the horns: debating the roles of animals in northern human societies;
• Situating the Mesolithic-Neolithic transition in northwest Europe;
• A stitch in time: combining analytical chronology in a Scandinavian context;
• Fringes of Christianity;
• Behind the (Iron) Curtain: looking back on Soviet archaeology;
• Community archaeology and the university;
• Foregrounding things: forms and faults of representation;
• Is everybody doing it? The role and value of analogical reasoning in archaeology reconsidered;
• Sites of gathering, cult, and assembly: a perspective across time;
• Archaeological exhibitionism; and
• Singularities: the particular and/or relational.
